There is new terminology used, as you have seen in the previous chapters, to identify dates in history by scholars. I will be using these new abbreviations throughout the book.
BCE – “Before Common Era” replaces; BC – “Before Christ”
CE – “Common Era” replaces; AD – “Anno Domini” or “Year of the Lord”
Creation
The very first verses in the bible should be a clear indicator to any reader that the book they are reading is only a fantasy and mixed up storybook.
From ancient times, the Hebrews and later the Christians believed that the earth was the centre of the universe, and that the sun, moon and stars were specks in the sky. They thought the earth was flat, with four corners, that the sky, the firmament, was solid, the floor of Jehovah's house. They imagined that the sun journeyed about the earth, and that by stopping the sun the day could be lengthened. They believed that Adam and Eve were the first man and woman and that they were created only a few years before, and that they, the Hebrews, were their direct descendants. All these beliefs based on the “Word of God”, the Bible. Only in recent history has all the theories been disproved by the advancement of science and reason. For almost 2000 years he Christian church have suppressed and persecuted scientist and free thinkers from revealing the truth and in so doing, cast a shadow of doubt over the godliness of the Bible and the people teaching from it.
Genesis 1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light… God called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
According to the bible, heaven and earth was created before the sun. The sun and moon with the movement of the constellations created after the earth, in order to have light, with a day and night. You cannot have light, day and night, without the sun. It also show that there was water on the earth before anything ells was created. This would be imposable seeing it would be frozen solid, without a sun. God could have walked on it.
According to the biblical chronology, on which the Jewish religion and indirectly the Christian religion are based, the date of creation is +/- 3760 BCE or 5765 years ago (calculated in the year 2005 CE). According to the Jewish calendar.
As any properly trained pastor/minister will tell you, there were no verse and chapter separations in the “original” documents of the bible. So it was very interesting that when I read the story of creation again, the way it was written, for the first time in many years it did not correspond with the original story of what I was told in Sunday-school. Here is major spanner in the wheel of the Christian dogma!
Let us have a close look at the order of Creation according to the Bible (Genesis 1: 1-31 to Genesis 2)
| Genesis Chapter 1 |
| Before Time |
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day", and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening…
|
“Heaven” and earth created. Also light and darkness separated, but it is not clear with what because the sun and moon were only created later…
|
| Day 1 |
…and there was morning, the first day. 6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening…
|
The “sky” created. God separated the waters from the sky, probably the atmosphere or the ozone layer. The is no sun to keep the water and atmosphere from freezing solid…
|
| Day 2 |
…and there was morning, the second day. 9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening…
|
The continents created. Moreover, all plant life created and sprouted across the earth (in one day). And still no sun, so no sunlight for the plants to be able to live and grow…?
|
| Day 3 |
…and there was morning, the third day. 14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening…
|
The sun, moon, all the other planets in the solar system and the entire universe created around the earth and put in motion. So what has been causing the earth to experience day and night so far?
|
| Day 4 |
…and there was morning, the fourth day. 20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening…
|
All marine life and birds created.
|
| Day 5 |
…and there was morning, the fifth day. 24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." 29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-everything that has the breath of life in it-I give every green plant for food." And it was so. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening…
|
All land creatures created. Humans created after them.
|
| Day 6 |
…and there was morning, the sixth day.
|
Nothing in mentioned of what happens on this day!
|
| Day 7 |
Gen 2: 1Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in their entire vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
|
God rested on the seventh day.

Genesis Chapter 2 (from verse 4) – a different order to creation than in the 1st chapter
|
First |
Heaven and earth |
Second |
Adam |
Third |
Plants (In the Garden of Eden) |
Fourth |
Land animals and birds |
Fith |
Eve |
According to what I read, the Biblical creation happened in 5 days, not 6. It will be interesting to hear what excuses and cover-up Christians will come up with to disprove this. After creating everything, God was tired and had to rest. However, Is.40:28 say is that God never tires…!
In the first account, birds and beasts were created before man. In the second, man was created before the birds and beasts. In the first, fowls are made out of the water. In the second, fowls are made out of the ground. In the first, Adam and Eve are created together. In the second, Adam is made; then the beasts and birds, and then Eve are created from one of Adam's ribs.
See the staggering contradictions! This writer was apparently inspired by a supreme God. Did God really think we would stay uneducated and uninformed to accept this kind of kinder-garden story as factual history? What is even scarier is that this God does not really know what is going on with his creation. It is as if he was experimenting with something new and He did not know any thing about.
There is a major battle going on between Creationists and Evolutionists. It is not my intention to disproof creationism in this book. There is more than enough evidence to show that creationism is on the wrong track. I do agree that there are still many questions unaccounted for in the evolutionists theories. Nevertheless, until science advances and we discover more things about our history, it is the closest theory and evidence to the history of our planet. The scientific evidence gathered in favour of evolution is staggering. You can fill 20 books and still only scratch the surface, but we are here to have a look at what the Bible has to say. So far, it has been a disappointment. Let us go on.
Gen 2: 18-22 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
It is clear from this story that God did not know what type of companion will suite Adam. He created animals to see if it could satisfy his desires, but it did not. Through trail and error God must have realize that man needed something more than an animal for companionship. Therefore, Eve was created. You can either accept this argument or not. If you do not you, have to agree that there is a serious problem believing the “Word of God” or even to believe in a god with this type of ignorance. Alternatively, you can accept it and agree that this is just a story with no value or truth.
The wonder of science has shown us that the story of creation in the bible is not reliable. One argument that does come up is that “one day” for God is not the same as one day for man. Psalms 90:4 - For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. They claim that the creation story could have played of over a period of 6,000 years, to the actual 6 day’s. It is a nice try, but it still does not hold up to the facts.
